Sky Studios, the generation and advancement arm of European media business Sky, has promoted Barnaby Shingleton to factual main.

Shingleton will just take on the purpose of director of factual with immediate result, acquiring beforehand served as director of documentaries at Sky Studios.

In his new position, Shingleton will just take on total obligation for Sky Studios’ professional financial investment, deficit funding and international distribution of Sky’s first documentaries, alongside 3rd celebration-funded assignments for other broadcasters manufactured by Sky Studios’ output corporations.

Shingleton is the former director of entertainment and factual at Sky Eyesight, wherever he oversaw and managed the non-scripted catalogue at Sky’s previous product sales arm that was folded into NBCUniversal International Distribution in Oct 2019.

Prior to becoming a member of Sky Eyesight in 2014, he was head of amusement at Zodiak Legal rights/RDF, now part of Banijay Group.

The new role will also see the exec extend his remit to include immediate responsibility for the Sky Studios portfolio of eight factual production providers in the British isles and US: Enjoy Productions (creators of The Fantastic British Bake Off), Jupiter Entertainment, Blast! Movies, Transistor Movies, Talos Movies, Genuine to Character, Catalina Articles and True North.

He has been tasked with securing business and growth interactions with factual producers and expertise, with the purpose of building projects that may be commissioned by Sky’s territories throughout Europe.

Shingleton will also operate with Sky’s factual commissioning teams across Sky in the British isles, Germany and Italy.

He will now report to Sky Studios CEO, Gary Davey, and incoming CEO Cécile Frot-Coutaz, when she joins the small business from YouTube this September.

Unlike Sky’s scripted content, which is jointly commissioned by Sky Studios and the originating Sky territory, commissioning for factual information sits inside Sky’s channel groups in each of Sky’s markets in the United kingdom, Italy and Germany.

In the British isles, this is led by Poppy Dixon, director of documentaries and factual, who commissions original content for Sky’s factual channels which includes Sky Mother nature, Sky Crime and Sky Documentaries.

Sky Documentaries past week introduced a slate of new tasks in the Uk, four of which are generated in association with Shingleton’s workforce at Sky Studios and dispersed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution.
